Communication process, communication styles, and communication forms in organizations. Emphases are on developing skills essential for effective communication. Coverage includes fundamentals of business writing, patterns of business messages, report writing, public speaking and oral reporting, verbal and nonverbal communication, use of visual and presentation aides, and cultural and international dimensions of communication.

Pre-Requisites: ENGL214

Overview of the evolution of management thought; the business environment and context; the basic functions of planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling; the basic processes of leadership, decision making, communication, and motivation; groups, teams, conflict, power, and politics; and overview of the fields of human resources management, operations management, management information systems, international management, and organizational change and development.

Managing people and their behaviors in organizations, analyzing individual and group behaviors, developing skills, knowledge, work values, developing effective communication at all levels and learning negotiation and conflict resolution.

Business legal system in Saudi Arabia, legal concepts dealing with business activities and traders, Saudi Arabian laws that govern the establishment and operations of corporations and other business enterprises, negotiable instruments, Capital Market Authority system, corporate governance.

International business law through an examination of general rules, cases and contemporary legal problems. Topics include sale contracts, international arbitration, regulation of international trade; protection and licensing of intellectual properly; and the legal ramifications of regional and economically integrated trade organizations, including the World Trade Organization and other multinational trade bodies. Discussion of various international bodies and agreements that affect international trade, including international labor laws, environmental, and climate change agreements.

Beginning of coop in summer. Description as given in MGT 351.

Twenty-eight weeks of practical training in Management or related area in a selected organization. The training program must be approved and the student's progress during his co-op period must be monitored. The student is expected to write a co-op report under the supervision of a faculty member in accordance with university regulations.

The role of business research, the human side of business research: organizational and ethical issues, theory building, the business research process, problem definition: The foundation of business research, overview of research methods (qualitative research tools, secondary data research in digital age, survey research observation methods, experimental research), measurement and scaling concepts attitude measurement, questionnaire design, sample designs and procedures, data analysis and presentation, communicating research results.

The MGT Internship provides the student with the opportunity to gain valuable practical business experience and insights in an organizational environment for a continuous period of 16 weeks to explore career interests while applying knowledge, competency, and skills learned in the classroom. The internship performance and responsibilities are evaluated by a faculty Internship advisor and a work-site supervisor through student’s submission of progress reports, employer’s feedback, final report, and presentation. Prerequisite: 85 credit hours, MGT 355, CGPA and MGPA of 2.0 or above

Principles of human resource management. The roles of, and techniques employed by, personnel management and line management in staffing, organizing, motivating, and developing the work-force, labor markets, wages, and salary systems.

The development and administration of compensation and benefits programs for both Saudi and expatriate employees. Great emphasis is placed on the role of compensation in attracting, retaining and motivating Saudi and expatriate employees. Topics investigated include motivation theory, factors influencing compensation levels, job evaluation, forms of compensation including incentive plans and fringe benefits.

Study of structure, process, and behavior of groups and individuals within an organization. Learning techniques include case studies, experimental method, and group problem-solving.

Role played by arbitration in the judicial process, especially in business, both local and international. How arbitration participates in developing and promoting new principles and trends of `International Mercantile Law common to all nations. Emphasis is given to arbitration courts and how they operate, also to actual cases shown and decided by arbitration courts.

Starting, planning, organizing, and managing a small Business. Coverage include the foundations of entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial thinking and mind, identifying opportunities, developing a business plan, ownership issues, financing the venture, marketing strategies, human resources planning and management, facilities acquisition and operation, materials and supplies management, profit and cash flow planning and management, budgeting and controlling, use of computer and technology, and the future of family-ownership.

Examines cross-cultural and international management issues, and analyzes the problems of managing in an international marketplace. It focuses on cultural and regional diversity and differences, political and economic influences, global market factors, and other contingencies with which managers of multinational enterprises must contend. The course covers an array of management practices – from human resource staffing, to leading and motivating a multi-cultural workforce, to creating strategic alliances for both large and small international firms.

This course is designed to enable the student to understand the fundamentals of human relations, the forces involved in group dynamics, the importance of psychological testing, counseling and guidance, interviewing techniques, and an understanding of the use and interpretation of Statistical analysis.

Traditionally a business firm is looked at from a vertical, i.e. functional, point of view separating finance from manufacturing, which in turn is separated from marketing. Instead, this course is concerned with the materials throughout the entire operating system, i.e., it takes a horizontal look at input, throughput and output. Topics that are discussed include purchasing and supply (procurement), monetary management, physical distribution, and logistics.

This course is intended to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and techniques they will need as chance agents to facilitate and manage change in organization. Topics include team building, sensitivity training, survey feedback, system four organization, managerial grids, etc.
