Description

The Bachelor of Science in Smart and Sustainable Cities program attempts to investigate and provide smart and sustainable creative solutions to city problems and aims towards shaping and smartly managing the current and future urban environment. Thus, Smart city planners utilize recent technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to develop innovative solutions by moving systematically through a process involving defining goals, analyzing real-time data and information, formulating plans, setting priorities, and designing programs of action. The program helps each student to acquire an interdisciplinary education that leads to an understanding of the physical environment and its economic, social, and environmental factors, with their problems and potentialities to improve the quality of life in cities and achieve Vision 2030.

Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives of the program are for the graduates to attain the following within a few years of graduation:

  1. Attain employment in governmental or private sectors that are dealing with smart and sustainable cities and communities, or engage in entrepreneurship.
  2. Advance their careers by demonstrating leadership and interpersonal skills including teamwork and communication skills.
  3. Pursue their professional development in the area of smart technologies and sustainability aspects in cities through self-learning or pursue advanced degrees.
  4. Produce specialized urban planning expertise through which advanced smart technologies and their applications can be enhanced, transferred, and utilized in the Kingdom and possibly elsewhere.
  5. Produce researchers who can investigate problems in different application domains and creatively develop, and evaluate planning solutions.
Student Outcomes
  • Identify fundamental concepts, theories, and principles in the field of smart city planning.
  • Identify smart and digital information technology, indicators, tools, and techniques regarding their applications in a smart city.
  • Discuss the materials, processes, techniques, practices, and conventions pertaining to smart city planning.
  • Apply critically and creatively smart and innovative methods, techniques, and practices in the planning process, leading to well-integrated, effective, and ethical contribution to city planning issues.
  • Use appropriate digital technology effectively throughout the investigative and planning processes.
  • Communicate effectively research and planning outcome to variant audience using various forms of human and digital means.
  • Collaborate responsibly and function effectively in performing tasks within an interdisciplinary team setting.
  • Demonstrate ethical, academic, professional, and societal responsibility and competence in planning smart cities and interacting with different stakeholders in this process.
