Description

The Architectural Engineering Master of Science (MS) program focuses on the emerging trend of the design, construction, and operation of sustainable and high-performance buildings. The program focuses on two key areas: Energy Sustainability, and Indoor Environment, both addressing and elaborating on wider sustainability dimensions and impacts on buildings. Accordingly, the program is developed under the Theme of: “Sustainable Energy and Indoor Environment” (SEIE). It offers courses addressing new emerging concepts, technologies, and stat-of-the-art developments in the area of smart, sustainable, and high-performance buildings.

The MS consists of 30 credit hours, of which 12 credit hours are core requirements, 12 credit hours are electives from Architectural Engineering courses, 6 credit hours are free electives from KFUPM graduate courses, and there are 6 credit hours of thesis work. The elective courses are classified under three major areas of Sustainable Energy (SE), Indoor Environment (IE), Supporting Elective Courses (SU), and required Master Thesis as well as Free Elective (FE) Courses offered by other departments at KFUPM.

Program Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements for possible admission as a regular graduate student to pursue an approved program leading to an advanced degree in Engineering and Science are:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from an institution whose undergraduate programs are substantially equivalent in length, content, and quality to those of KFUPM, with a major in the proposed field or evidence of suitable background for entering the proposed field.
  2. A Grade-Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher on a scale of 4.00 or equivalent, and a GPA of 3.00 in the subject of the major field. Official transcripts and degree certificates are required for final admission.
  3. Completion of TOEFL with a minimum score for MS admission of 520 (PBT), 190 (CBT) or 68 (iBT). The TOEFL score must be sent directly to the College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies (University Code is 0868). IELTS is also accepted with a minimum score of 6.0.
  4. General Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score with minimum scores in quantitative and analytical sections of 156 and 4.0, respectively. The GRE score must be sent directly to the College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies (University Code is 0868).
  5. Three letters of recommendation from the faculty who taught the applicant university-level courses.
  6. Satisfactorily meeting any additional departmental or university admission requirements.
  7. Applications for competitive scholarships are expected to demonstrate a high academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.00 or higher on a scale of 4.00.

In addition to the above-mentioned KFUPM requirements, the applicant should meet the following ARE requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Civil and Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering fields equivalent to the KFUPM Bachelor's degree (preferably from a Bachelor Program accredited by ABET).
  • Applicants, whose majors are not Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or Civil Engineering, are required to take a deficiency course (ARE 500) without graduate credits.
