Description

The Department of Architecture and City Design, College of Design and Built Environmental Design at KFUPM offers a Master of Science in Architecture (MS Arch) program in order to allow in-depth inquiry of topics critical to today’s built environment and that of the future. The program fulfils the need for well-trained architects to cope with the increasing complexity in the building industry, and to respond to the increased demand for well-trained and specialized architects in the Kingdom. The MS in Architecture program offers specialization in two areas of concentration: (1) Sustainable Architecture and (2) Advanced Design Studies. In addition, the graduate program will allow a wide selection of graduate courses and research activities that will engage the student with current issues in architecture aligned with Saudi Arabia’s stated goals in Vision 2030.

The Architecture program at KFUPM aims at not only fulfilling the needs of the building industry in the Kingdom, but also proposing innovative ideas to solve contemporary issues and raise quality of life in Saudi Arabia. Due to rapid progression in Architecture‐related fields and continuous evolving in the needs of the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry in Saudi Arabia, there is an increased need for this graduate program in the Kingdom. The Department of Architecture and City Design at KFUPM offers a MS in Architecture with the following main features:

  • The MS Arch program is unique in Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Gulf Region. No similar concentration areas in any of the existing programs in the Kingdom.
  • The MS Arch program aims to maintain and further enhance the quality of architecture education, in line with the high standard of KFUPM.
  • The MS Arch program addresses the current and future needs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the Arabian Gulf Peninsula in the important field of architecture and the built environment.
  • The program is designed to investigate critical areas of inquiry that addresses some of the most important issues in field of architecture today; that is sustainability and design quality.
  • The program has been designed with quality that is comparable with the best in the field while providing flexibility to meet the unique needs of its local context with minimum course-load and cost.
Program Admission Requirements

Admission to the program requires fulfilling all KFUPM and College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies requirements. In addition, the applicant should have the first professional degree in Architecture (BS Arch) or a BS in Architecture from a program equivalent in length, content and quality to BS Arch Program at KFUPM, with a Grade-Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher on a scale of 4.00 or equivalent, and a GPA of 3.00 or higher in Architecture major.
